Our travel agency URANIAMAAS TRAVELrecommends “Goumenissa” and chatzivariti winery  as an alternative wine tourism destination on the road to Xinomavro.

Every year from 20th October to 10th of  December on the occasion of the distillation of tsipouro, we organise – a very different from the ordinary- three day wine tour. This tour is articulated around an endless feast. The feast starts on Friday evening at dinner time where you can try a variety of traditional dishes. This will take place  at one of the distillation cauldrons of the area where you can also see the distillation process in action. The menu in addition to the roasted calf head, includes unlimited quantities of souvlaki, pork belly, sausages, roasted gratin, pork and, of course, traditional pies, salads and plenty of wine and tsipouro. Dinner is accompanied  with  bands playing rebetika songs and traditional music. An endless dance starts  after the meal and the feast continues until morning.

On Saturday morning anyone wishing can  take a walk at mountain Paiko. The village, Kastaneri is beautiful at this time of the year and walking in this very picturesque landscape is a luxurious experience. For those who love walking, there are short or longer paths engraved in mountain Paiko in between the beech and chestnut trees. There is also the option of shopping at the Saturday market where you can find local products at very good prices and of course the most delicious chestnuts.

You can also arrange a visit at the old silk factory or a private museum where one can see a unique private collection of articles and documents concerning the history of Goumenissa since 1800.

At noon we will all meet at the winery to enjoy the delicious food with plenty of wine. For the wine lovers a winery visit will be arranged after lunch. There you can enjoy a wine tasting of varieties, which are awarded in several national  international wine competitions .

After the wine tasting experience, a feast at with the famous brass instruments  of Goumenissa follows and lasts until the first  morning hours.

On Sunday on the way back home it is worth  visiting the famous churches and monasteries of Goumenissa.

It is a unique weekend of wine tourism and not only,  a weekend of alternative tourism
